I was really looking forward to visiting Calvary, Williamsville and hearing Ethan Cole preach. I have a great deal of respect for Ethan and was glad to hear he was given the opportunity to lead the congregation at Calvary. Unfortunately, his sermon Sunday didn’t quite measure up to what I was expecting from him. It was repetitive and very, very short. Maybe his congregation prefers shorter sermons, and that’s ok but I really wanted him to hit one out of the ball park like he has in the past. Maybe next time.
The service was very well attended with over 100 parishioners filling the pews. The choir and organ master was magnificent and on key. (If anyone attended St. Mark’s in Riverside Buffalo, they’d get that last comment.)
We were invited to coffee hour and introduced around by their “greaters” who’s job it is is to welcome newcomers. It was nice. The coffee was fresh and hot and the desserts filled two tables…plenty to go around more than once.
All in all, it was a very pleasant visit…one that I would like to make again.
ok, I messpelled greeters….should have proofed but didn’t. don’t hold it against me
ok, I misspelled misspelled..
I enjoyed the service and the music as well (the choir is awesome!), but agree with Harper’s statement of expecting more from Ethan. I have friends that regularly attend Calvary and have heard wonderful things about him. Was also looking forward to hearing Deb play, and was disappointed that she wasn’t there this week. I would most definitely like to go again to hear Ethan’s sermon, and hear Deb play.
I think this would be a wonderful church to attend for Christmas services, and will keep it in mind when December rolls around, as the music was absolutely wonderful.
My only complaint is the lack of parking, but I guess there isn’t much they can do about that. My suggestion is to get there early, or you’ll be walking a few blocks from your car.
