i was on the internet and was checking a christian website called Family Radio. I am familiar with it because when I was first a christian over 20 years ago I listened to it regularly. it is very conservative in its understanding of the bible i guess you could call it fundamentalist. I still listen to it from time to time to try to understand where other people are coming from in their understanding. I was scanning thru a publication of theirs about the timing of "end of the world" called WE ARE ALMOST THERE in which the author, who is also one of the founders of Family Radio, calculates the end of the world and Jesus return using various dates and numbers as used in the bible. Anyway this paragraph really made it very clear to me how this man interprets the Bible so I though Id share it. It showed me how there can be some many interpretations of biblical passages depending on ones framework of understanding. I cut and paste this passage right from the book.
We can outline a number of fundamental truths that the Bible teaches us, and they are as follows.
1. The Bible is a very analytical book. It is not written in such a way as to encourage subjective analysis or philosophical reasoning (II Peter 1:20). It is written like an engineering book, wherein truth is presented as absolute fact.
There follows a number of other points if your interested you can find this book on familyradio.com/english/ click on literature online. It is pretty confusing but it all has to do with numbers and their meanings. In a way I find it fascinating though i have to say i dont agree with the supposition that the bible is an analytical book and should be understood like an engineering book!! In fact i have a degree in Civil Engineering and as it turns out so does the man who wrote this book!! Amazing how differently people can think and see things. In fact i used to think along these lines years ago , though not so dogmatically as this.
